Over the past weekend 5 young men were proud to represent JFRT at the U12 Derbies, hosted jointly by Tussey and Roundtop Mountains. Congratulations to Noah R, Jamison D, Cameron M, Owen B and Luke W! The boys were coached by Sarah Johnson, who last visited Roundtop Mountain as a J4/5 (U12) herself!
A last minute change of venue sent all the parents scrambling to cancel and re-book hotel rooms. The weather forecast didn't look promising, and as a result, the disciplines were rearranged. The weekend started with the GS on Friday, and temperatures reached 75 degrees by mid afternoon -- certainly not skiing weather! The parents were in short sleeves, the boys were coated with sunscreen and we all watched the snow melt before our eyes.
Day two was the skills quest, and the race officials powered through all stations prior to the rain starting. We continued to sadly watch the snow fade away and the mud appear.
And on the third day... winter returned! The SL course was set and each racer completed three runs.
Awards were given for Skills Quest, SL, GS and overall. I am pleased to announce that Cameron Mehallo placed 2nd in the Skills Quest and 10th overall for the weekend, earning himself a spot on the PA State Team!!! Congratulations to Cameron and to all the young men that completed this weekend!
